Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse

BELINDA SKELTON’S ATLANTA LIVING—Double Eagle Steakhouse

The eagle has landed!—the Double Eagle that is.  Del Frisco’s Grille, the upscale casual Texas-based chain which set up shop in Buckhead five years ago now brings to Atlanta their ultra-premium sister concept, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, to the Perimeter area in the newly completed Perimeter Park Center, home to State Farm’s headquarters.

Like anything in Texas, this is big.  Really big.  The space is an 11,000 square-foot stunner by the Johnson Studio starting with a dramatic ascending entrance with up lighting illuminating a tunnel of 2,200 bottles of wine.   The two levels inside the restaurant are decorated mid-century modern with a caramel colored leather banquettes and oak accents throughout.  Another 2,500 bottles of wine “float” around the space in a sprawling exposed cellar.  Outside the dining room, a handsome terrace faces the sunset and serves food and beverages while a multi-colored LED fountain dances around.

The menu boasts a Texas-sized selection of USDA Prime wet and dry-aged cuts, including the namesake “Double Eagle Steak,” a 32 oz. 45-day dry-aged, double bone-in prime ribeye.  For the power-hitters out there they have choices of the primo marbleized Wagyu steaks—Japanese A5, Australian Wagyu and a cut from Rosewood, Texas.  Also adhering to the steakhouse template, Double Eagle flies in seafood daily, has an ocean of fancy wine and cocktails and their butter cake dessert is one of the best non-chocolate desserts in the city.

They are open for lunch Monday through Friday and dinner seven days a week and you will find both power brokers with corporate expense accounts and folks out for some stylish fun just OTP.  While it’s extremely focused on the food, it certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously and gives off a cheerful energy.  In probably the most competitive restaurant category in the city with close to 20 steakhouses in a 10-mile radius, Double Eagle digs in with both talons and delivers an impressive new option for carnivores.
