Breaking Chews 2.25.24

Today is National Clam Chowder Day…which is sort of lame because we already had "New England Clam Chowder Day" back in January but OK…

But on Thursday (leap day!) it's National Chili Day. Here are some of my favs to get a hearty bowl of chili!

· Fox Brothers BBQ

· Grindhouse Killer Burgers

· Ted's Montana Grill's "Karen's Flying-D" Bison Chili

Speaking of Leap Year Mellow Mushroom locations are offering free delivery on Leap Day. And also it's surreal to know that Mellow Mushroom is 50 years young this year! Among other things they are doing to refresh the brand: they are going to soon open a new model prototype this summer along the Southside Beltline Trail in Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood. It's rumored to be a 3,400-square-foot restaurant will feature elements unique to the more than 160 other Mellow Mushroom locations, including counter service ordering and new menu flavor profiles for food and beverage. Also expect two outdoor, Beltline-facing terraces.

Not as big as the Michelin Guide but till very important, the Forbes Travel Guide awards were recently announced, and 2 repeat Atlanta restaurant winners garnered 4 out of 5 stars—Atlas and Baccanalia. On Atlas: "Not to be outdone by the Henri Matisse piece hanging on the wall, chef Freddy Money approaches each dish with the discerning eye of a sculptor." On Bacchanalia "The chefs and owners at the Four-Star Atlanta restaurant, Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, are a celebrated husband and wife team who create contemporary American cuisine. The culinary philosophy of this James Beard award-winning team is to create light dishes that are built on strong flavors. The hotels that got 4 stars were the Four Seasons in Midtown, the St. Regis, and the Waldorf in Buckhead.

Oh, the horror! The newly minted Michelin Star restaurant Lazy Betty has closed!!! But fear not! This was all planned--they will soon reopen in the former Empire State South space in Midtown later this year.

And finally, 39-year-old Tucker restaurant Blue Ribbon Grill closed today, but the owners are seeking a new location. The owners cited rising rent as a reason for choosing not to renew their lease at the current space. A GoFundMe was launched to help the business with the costs of relocating and paying staff.
